Bums, burgers and beginnings...

Image
The first picture is something Steve thought was funny and sent to a friend. She replied that it is advisable never to take a picture of a woman’s bum.  I agree.  He is in the doghouse. (Says Steve: the bum is incidental to the photo. As many pilgrims will tell you, you grow accustomed to recognizing people from behind. Just saying...) The second picture is just to prove that we are in Paris. The third picture is to show that Steve can find a hamburger anywhere and that there are alternatives to hamburgers. Off to St Jean Pied de Port tomorrow to begin the journey.

Outside Our Comfort Zone

Image
First, we recognize that we are exceedingly lucky to be able to do this. So nothing should sound like a whine. We have NOTHING to whine about. Having said that, leaving has been hard. Leaving the family, friends and oh yes, Sandy, the dog, pictured above.  We even went back to the house after we said goodbye the first time and that's when we found him as pictured above. Must admit....our eyes were sweating..... Dr Seuss has some wise words for us as we depart: “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.” My question is whether we really had brains in our heads when we made this decision. Cause we are way outside our comfort zone!! We will keep you posted!

Meet Fellow Pilgrim, Will James

Image
Before we begin our trip, we want to introduce you to our travel companion, Will James.  Will lived a life of curiosity and exuberance in Greensboro, North Carolina for 28 awesome years while his body dealt with muscular dystrophy.  A testament to his life and an article about his family are linked below (you may have to cut and paste the link in your browser).  We will walk with some of Will's ashes so he can experience a few of the many places that held his curiosity.  As a tribute to Will's life and his 43 girlfriends (give or take), we will leave a part of him in 43 different places (give or take) as our journey takes us from St. Jean Pied de Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain.  We are honored to be able to share this trek with Will; he will forever be a pilgrim on the Camino.  Buen Camino, Will. https://www.greensboro.com/obituaries/james-william-marshall/article_ff01498e-2b48-568f-ae23-2269841dd5a0.html https://www.greensboro.c...

Image
We leave for Paris on August 29th and then start our Camino adventure from St. Jean Pied de Port on September 2. We think our feet are ready, our supplies are mostly ready.....It's an adventure.  We will keep you posted. "There is a crack in everything.... ...that's how the light gets in."
