To Pamplona with Will (and love)

Quote for the day from Hemingway, naturally, since we are in Pamplona.

The world breaks everyone and afterwards, some are strong at the broken places. Ernest Hemingway

Since Will was a lover of women and adventures, and since we are in a place known for Ernest Hemingway, we think this is a great time to pay tribute to Will.

We’ll tell you a little about Will’s journey with us.  Every day, we get up, pack our big bags and our day packs, eat breakfast, take care of our feet, put our boots on and head out.  Our first stop is with my iPad.  I have Will’s name and the date and the city on a “word” document and we take a picture of the iPad so we know where we shared Will with that community. We make sure it is in a pretty place.  We send that picture to a few of Will’s girlfriends who share it with his family, as they think appropriate.  That ritual gives us grounding for our day and Will gets to share his indomitable spirit with the community

We didn’t know Will.  We certainly knew of the family and went to the same church. And we know at least two of Will’s girlfriends.

One of his 43 (give or take) girlfriends (Gail), said that he would love the running of the bulls, but only if he was sure that no one got hurt, especially the pretty ladies.  So glad you are on this trek with us Will.

So, as I type, the hurricane has strengthened and many are in harms way.  We send our heartfelt love.

Here’s the trail update for the day:  13 miles, about 1000 feet up and 1000 feet down.  Was a bit surprised about the difficulty, because it was labeled a 1 (least difficult).  We have now walked a total of 43 miles.  Only 442 to go.

Here are some pictures from today showing the various different terrains experienced in one day.    Also some of the homes and flower boxes we pass by.

On to Puenta de la reina tomorrow.  Be safe our friends......
