Life is a highway.....Rascal Flats

We were in Sarria two days ago.  Sarria is the last on-ramp for Pilgrims to qualify for a Compostela (a certificate of completing the Camino).  It is a great way to make the Pilgrimage.   It takes only 5 or 6 days of walking from Sarria to get to Santiago.  So, lots of people start here.  Which brings me to Rascal Flats.  It looked like a highway of people this morning.

When I went back to look up the lyrics (I couldn’t remember them all...), the lyrics really speak to this experience.  Here’s a sample for others who may not remember.

Life’s like a road that you travel on
When there’s one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend and sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind.

There’s a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won’t haunt you any more
Where brave and free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore......

I had a very “UN” Camino thought this morning.  One of the new Camino walkers hadn’t learned the culture yet. He was listening to his iPhone without earbuds.  So, we all had to listen to his selection of audio book or radio or whatever.  Finally, I mumbled as I passed him that I would be happy to lend him my earbuds.  He did turn it down after that.

Today was long:  18.2 miles,  about 1700 feet up and over 2000 down. It felt like 4000 feet up.

But my favorite story is about our hotel.  It is beautiful, as you can see. However, the bathtub is a bit small and you can’t stand up in it.  I will leave the rest to your imagination. But I have to say, there was a moment when I laughed so hard that I thought I wouldn’t stop!!

I am taller than the curtain rod and it slopes downward from there.

Here’s Sandra who is back on the Camino full speed ahead!!!
More pictures from today.
Pulpo  (octopus is really big in this region).  This guy stopped us so he could give us some Octopus.  Sometime you should ask Steve what he said to him...

Our taxi driver who took us this morning to where we left off walking late yesterday afternoon.
The start of the day.

Just some fellow hikers that seemed to have a great spirit and let me take their picture.

This is a picture of where we shared Will James spirit this morning.
A woman with the proceeds from her garden.

Off to Amenal tomorrow.  15 miles Then one more day to Santiago.
