We once were lost, but now we are found.....

This first picture is from last year.  We were leaving Ponferrada and our directions to the Camino were not clear.  So, we thought we were lost for about an hour.  But the truth is that our way out of town last year saved us about 1.8 miles.....which we only found out when we took the “right” path this year.  So, we were lost last year, but actually we were better off.....Maybe now we are found....?

Total today: 16.2.  Total last year same destination:  14.4.  Yikes.  We’ve completed 388 miles.  112 to go.  Assuming the knees, hips, ankles and spirit hold up.

Injuries:

It is so easy to get injured here.  One step out of many thousands and you have pain in your foot, shin, ankle, knee, hip....or you fall and break your wrist.  We have seen it all.  It is amazing how many people get injured. It is the luck of the draw.  Just one rock can change things.  Luckily, for many, a day or two of rest and they are back in the saddle.

Here’s to those who try, because its all about being in the arena and giving it your best.

Should have sent this picture last year.  It shows just how nerdy you can be when you are lost in Spain before dawn.  Add that to hiking in sandals and socks...Ouch!!

Not a bad sunrise in the background.

A  bread and sweets store that we wouldn’t have seen if we had gone the short way out of Ponferrada  this morning.  We saw the owner who said that it is named after her daughter. Steve gave her a North Carolina lapel pin as a remembrance.

We thought this was a cow.  Biggest dog you’ve ever seen.  If  you’ve ever read the book “The Pilgrimage” by Paul Coelho, you’ll know how prominently a dog is featured in his story.
This is the second guy we’ve seen carrying his guitar.  Not sure how he makes he down the descents with that in front of his face, but alas he is young.  Yesterday, his girlfriend carried the guitar.
Churches of course, are everywhere on the Camino.

Just other random pictures of our day.
