“Where the way of the wind crosses the way of the stars.”

First off, it appears Wrightsville Beach dodged a big one. Still, we know others have not fared so well....

Our first surprise today was in a small village about eight miles outside of Pamplona.  We rested and had a coffee.  When we finally took off, we saw a young man we recognized.  We looked at each other and said, Santiago?  Sure enough, we called out Santiago, and he turned around and said, yes!!!  We met Santiago and his walking buddy, Alexander, last year on our very first day and saw them both almost every day all the way to Santiago de Compostela.  We got to know his buddy, Alexander better, but Santiago and Alexander were together much of the time. He became a familiar face after thirteen days of running into each other.  What an amazing coincidence...to meet him again...on the road to Santiago.....  First picture from last year.  Second two pictures are from this year...

He’s not bad on the eyes, just saying....And plays the guitar and sings....

Second surprise was that we thought we were walking fourteen miles today. It was sixteen.  Those two extra miles seem longer after expecting only fourteen...those two miles seemed like an eternity.  About 1500 feet up and over 1000 down on rocks.  Total mileage to date: 59.  Only 426 to go....

At the top of the climb, there is an iconic representation of pilgrims (picture below) with the following inscription:  “Where the way of the wind crosses the way of the stars.”  We shared a little of Will James at that spot.

Off to Estella tomorrow.
