Milestones and the sounds of silence....

We started earlier today...largely because breakfast started earlier.  Saw the sun peaking out.  The trip was a long one today.  Nineteen miles (and four/tenths, but that probably only matters to me!).  We also ascended 1700 feet and descended 1000 feet.  The scenery was quite varied today. More sunflowers.  Lots of sunflowers. Lots of wheat/oats too, but it had been harvested.  Pictures below of sunrises and sunflowers, bridges, a labyrinth and open fields. More about the silence after the pictures.

We didn’t talk a lot today.  We walked with one other guy for a few miles. But we heard a lot of sounds during the silence.  A rooster greeted us on the way out of town.  There were bees buzzing around us and a few flies.  We heard birds and the wind.  The wind was fierce today.  And it was wonderful because it would have been hot otherwise.  Mostly what I remember was the crunch, step, crunch, pole, crunch, step of our feet as we made our way forward.

I set ridiculous milestones.  We knew we had 18 miles today.  My milestones are as follows:
One mile down
One Wrightsville Beach loop completed
Only a half marathon to go
Less than ten miles to go
We are half way there
Only one WB loop to go
Only one mile to a beer
A beer, a shower, dinner and bed...repeat.....

A few final pictures and tomorrow we are off to Burgos.
