Morning has broken....
It was a three part day. The dawn/sunrise, the top the mountain and the descent.
And, while the word Rock isn’t ordinarily considered an obscenity, after yesterday’s 3600 ft downward trek I’ve decided it’s another bad four letter word that ends in K.
It was the most spectacular morning....it is hard to describe. So, the pictures will have to do the job. But we started at 6:00 am in the dark with our headlamps. We climbed up rocks for about an hour. Here’s what we saw and heard:
It was the most spectacular morning....it is hard to describe. So, the pictures will have to do the job. But we started at 6:00 am in the dark with our headlamps. We climbed up rocks for about an hour. Here’s what we saw and heard:
- A mouse and a lizard and enough sticks that looked like snakes that I actually got used to them.
- Cob webs on plants that glistened in our headlamps.
- Dew on leaves that made them look like Christmas ornaments...like they had either glitter or were wrapped in holiday cellophane
- Owls and birds, but no roosters this morning. Maybe We woke Them up.
- And silence...
Cruz de Ferro followed. It is a very religious or spiritual place for many people. Our pictures are below the sunrise pictures. Steve got a great one!!
We left something here in honor of our families, our friends from our last Camino, our friends from Wilmington, from Wrightsville Beach, Chapel Hill and Todd, NC.
Then there was the @#$#%^& descent. We ascended 1850 feet and descended 3635 feet. On rocks. After every patch of descent, there was another rocky descent. Knees and ankles and shins were all up for a challenge. And a challenge they indeed experienced.
BEFORE we got to the end today, we celebrated with a beer. (Steve doesn’t think that is a good idea, although he had one too!). And afterward, Sandra and I ditched our boots for our hiking sandals and got a picture of the new fashion statement. Watch out Wilmington and Greensboro, soon, you too will be walking around town in Tevas and socks.
This is Jan from North Carolina and Jan from North Carolina.
And a selfie......
