An early morning walk is a blessing for the whole day.....
Quote for the day: An early-morning walk is a blessing for the whole day. -Henry David Thoreau.
Today’s trek was about fourteen miles. And though it seems like a broken record, it was about 1200 feet ascending and 1000 descending. 136 miles completed and 349 to go...
Off to Belorado tomorrow....
You have to look over your shoulder to catch these moments, because if you are looking forward on on your way to Santiago and see the sunrise, you are going in the wrong direction...Our shadows are proof we are headed the right way...at least on the road to Santiago...
We had dinner last night in Najera with our new friends from Australia, Chris and Michael. Very interesting folks. They live in Darwin, where the World War II movie “Australia” was set (Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman star in it.) We ended up walking with them about five miles today. First time we’ve really had any political discussions on the Camino. There have been a few references by other fellow walkers to US politics, but few direct questions until today. It is always interesting to see our country from other’s perspectives. They know so much more about our country than we do theirs.
Check out this photo. When you first look at it, the path doesn’t seem that far. But if you zoom in, you can see those little ants are actually people and you realize how far away that path is.
The walk today included an additional crop: green beans. The scenery continues to be beautiful and includes interesting signs, out of the ordinary things and sculptures.
Finally, we are staying in a Paradores Hotel this evening. Last night may have been appropriate for a pilgrimage, but we’ll gladly stay here and enjoy every amenity.
