She Wee....

First things first.  Thanks to Steve for his guest blog. He is really funny.  But I am back for a few days anyway.

But yesterday was really BIG!!  We just found out how to level the playing field between men and women.  It’s called She Wee.  Enter our new best friend from Australia who told us about the She Wee and made us laugh so hard that we almost....never mind.

Anyone who doesn’t want to read about difference in male and female anatomy should scroll down to the next part of the blog.

As we are hiking, men simply pull of the road behind a tree and go.  Women, on the other hand, fret for a while, worry longer and then finally when they know there is no other option, find the perfect thick row of trees that perfectly cordon off the hikers from “their spot” and then take their roll of “Papier Hygenique” (thank you, Ann) and their hand sanitizer and go.  For various reasons, it IS awful.  Not least of which is that we are much closer to the ground and there is no possibility for aiming.....I’ll let you figure out the problem from there.

Enter She Wee.  It is a faux man device.  Google it, I won’t explain it further.  It even apparently has an extension.

Our new Aussie friend went from telling us about She Wee to telling us how happy she is to still be here.  She lost her husband 15 years ago.  Raised four children alone.  This is the Camino....one minute you are laughing so hard and the next you have the most poignant moment....

Sandra arrived from Greensboro on Wednesday.  She’s gotten into the flow quite well as you can see. And she completed 24 miles between yesterday and today.  We left her on the trail for a bit today and she made new friends and had not a single problem.

A picture of Sandra as we left her on the Camino to make her way by herself.  Mission accomplished!

Today, Steve and I began retracing our trip from last year.  But of course, while everything is the same, everything is different.  We miss our friends from last year and we are making new friends this year.   I met a man from London, whose name I didn’t get.  I saw him taking the wrong road and hollered “London”.  He laughed and came back and got on the right trail.  We met a couple who looked so young that we thought they were in their 20’s (from Amherst, New Hampshire); only to find out their oldest child is 25 and they have wanted to walk the Camino for years...but had to wait until their youngest left home.  He did and here they are.  We also met three young German men, one Austrian woman.  And a Genevieve from South Africa.  Here are some pictures from the day with a few descriptors.  Between yesterday and today, we have completed  24 miles bringing our total to  326.  Making progress.

                                                Steve....best dressed on the Camino
We met some friends at this tree last year.  And we miss seeing them here with us this year.  That’s a call out to Louise and Judy.
These men desperately wanted to talk with us, but alas, the language barrier was beyond us, because they were saying something beyond ordering a beer, asking what time dinner is, or where to go to do the laundry.  We know they have some stories to tell and really wish we had more of the language.
This is our hotel.  It is also a truck stop.  It is clean and the people are nice.

This is a Roman bridge where legend has it that a Leonese knight named Suero de Quinones successfully fought hundreds of other knights out of love.  The legend is unclear as to whether he actually got the girl in the end. I don’t think he did.

Off to Astorga tomorrow.
