When you meet anyone, remember, as you see them, you will see yourself.
Quote for the day: When you meet anyone, remember....as you see them, you will see yourself.
From The John Brierley Camino de Santiago Guide.
Summary for the day: 13.5 miles...except for the early climb, the route was pretty flat. Total mileage to date: 182. Only 303 to go...
We met a lot of people along the way. Sometimes we have seen people for days but have never talked with him. As a retired cardiologist from Canada said today, he’s met only nice and interesting people. We agree.
Last night, a friend we walked with last year sent us a special poem which I have copied at the end. Thank you Ally.
And for a laugh check out the Pilgrim look when preparing to hike in the rain. It’s all about the style baby!!
A note about where we were last night: Atapuerca. According to our guide book, Atapuerca is a UNESCO site where caves and the earliest human remains in Europe were discovered. They are estimated to be over 1.3 Million years old.
We started today before sunrise and saw this beautiful moon. After the sun rose, we found ourselves climbing in old rock beds. We don’t think the pictures do them justice. To make the trek more pleasant, these were lovely tiny lavender flowers dispersed among the rocks. Since you had to look down they whole time to make sure you don’t fall or turn your ankle, they were especially pretty.
After we finished the rock climbing and descending, we were in sunflower and hay fields again. Finally, we finished with a river walk into Burgos. When we arrived in Burgos, we had our standard beer and a sandwich. I’ve included a video of that with the church bells ringing in the background. And then we found Macademia’s. The cookies and cinnamon rolls were divine...cookies were even in Camino shell shape. Included below are a few more pictures of directional shells and the spires of the Burgos cathedral.
We have a rest day tomorrow in Burgos. And then on to Leon where we will meet Sandra, have another rest day....before we begin to walk the final 200 miles.
PS, I love today’s quote especially because of Will. I understand he always wanted to know about others.
