If I were king of the forest....

I’ll get to the title in a minute....We left Sarria before sunrise around 7:30 in fog and mist.  Not enough to suit up for rain, but truly misty. We had to climb those blamed stairs again and then climb through the town center.  And then climb some more.  Finally, we descended for a while until yet again, we climbed.  I didn’t have my legs this morning....I told Steve that I was fighting for every step. I didn’t take many pictures early on, because I just didn’t have my mojo.

So the reason this post is titled “If I were King of the Forest” from the Wizard of Oz is because the next climb was on a path with trees that reminded me of the forest that Dorothy and her companions walked though...The trees were gnarly and looked as if they had hands that could reach out and grab you.  And without my usual energy, I needed some courage to keep going.  And Steve needed courage to go on with me at an unusually (for us) slow pace.

Fortunately that courage came in the form of some Spanish pastry. I wish I had taken a picture of it, but after a coffee and that pastry, my legs were back under me (and Steve was happier) and on we went.

Sandra started a little later in the morning and joined us at lunch today with Helen.  Our friends James and Nady will be behind us a day after today, so we’ll have one last drink with them and bid them a final Buen Camino.  They’ll go back to Belize and the bar they own, called the Lazy Lizard.  If in Belize, you must go there and order a Lazy Lizard house special.

Cheryl from Brisbane, AUS walked with us the rest of the day. A delightful lady, she is....

14.5 miles today.  1700 feet ascending, 1900 descending.

Here are my pictures from the day.  I’ll make a note on some of them.

 Vaping while hiking...Really?

Our Queensland friends made it to Santiago today.  “Good on them” as the Australian saying goes!!
If you zoom in, you can see that we have only 100 klm’s to go.  Like 60 miles.
In case you were wondering how Jude and Maddy (a week old) are doing, here they are.  I think they have taken to each other!!

We left a little of NC behind.
Steve put these pins on a few trees and gave them to numerous people.

Anyone who was following along at the beginning will remember that this guy has been carrying his guitar since the beginning.  Not sure where his girlfriend is....
This is our friend Cheryl from Queensland, Brisbane, AUS.

This was the rock descent into the city.

 It was quite a challenge.
Followed by these stairs....

Just down from our hotel.

Off to Lestedo tomorrow.  Though we may have to walk further to Palais de Rais to make the following day less than 20 miles.

Oh Saria, another favorite stop of mine! Best food we ate on the Camino (in my opinion). You are having the true Camino experience getting to meet and walk with so many other Pilgrims from all over.
